What are valve actuators?

A valve actuator is a mechanical device that uses a power source to operate a valve. It can be operated manually by a human worker or automatically by an outside power source. The power source can be electric, pneumatic, or hydraulic. Two common types of valve actuators include pneumatic and electric. Depending on its design, it can be used for on-off flow applications and/or throttling flow applications. For more information view https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valve_actuator

What do valve actuators do?

Actuators are used to automate industrial valves. They can be found in almost all process plants. They are used in wastewater treatment plants, power plants, refineries, mining and food factories, etc. Valve actuators play a major part in automating process control.

What's the difference between pneumatic and electric actuators?

The biggest difference between electric and pneumatic actuators is the driving force of their operation. Pneumatic actuators require an air supply of 60 to 125 PSI. The solenoid (pilot) valve is controlled by either an AC or DC voltage. When no air supply is available, electric actuators are used.

How can I choose a valve actuator?

Both pneumatic and electric actuators are useful across a broad range of valve applications. Each type of actuator has its advantages and disadvantages, and choosing one depends primarily on your specific requirements. The main points to consider when comparing the two are: 1. Cost2. Power source availability3. Temperature range4. Environment/hazardous areas5. Fail-safe requirements6. Torque or thrust requirements7. Control Functions
